Life Lately..

Well, we’re officially under one month until our wedding (cue panic)!

As we make final preparations and iron out details, we were lucky to actually get to spend some time together on our own doing one of our favorite things – hiking, and then attend a family wedding:

We have about 4 weeks until we tie the knot – and not a single weekend to spend together until our honeymoon (argghh). So this was a welcomed break.

Fab find of the week: Gabriel Bros & Target

True life: I am a frugal fashionista. I live for a bargain, and because of that I cringe at the idea of paying full price for pretty much anything.

Because of this my BFF Shiva (and fellow frugal fashionista) and I have made it a habit to make a trip to one of our favorite places to find bargains, Gabriel Bros (affectionately known as Gabes) at least once a month.

Some visits are better than others, and last night was definitely one of our best trips yet. Continue reading to see what we found:

High-heel tank ($5.99), uneven hem 3/4 sleeve sweater ($7), sunnies ($4.99), BCBG pumps ($7)

It wasn't until I got home that I saw the original price tag on these pumps... $185!!! Did I mention I got them for $7???

I was really excited to find the chunk grey sweater, because I’ve been wanting one to wear like this:

I found this amazeballs dress for $7. I have nowhere to wear it right now but for that price.. how do you say no!?

A few of Shiva's fab finds: Jessica Simpson wedges and two pairs of BCBG shoes. (Her black pair was originally parked $125!!!!)

I also checked out Target’s sales yesterday and even though I’m usually discouraged and stressed our when stores are as picked over as our Target is right now, I found a sweater dress and a tunic sweater that I couldn’t pass up:

Love this tunic sweater for just $11. I want to pair it with leggings and/or pleather leggings and either my black quilted riding boots or my heeled over the knee boots for a dressier look.

Staying warm and looking chic in frigid temps

Ok guys.. It’s cold outside. Like really cold. Like it’s -2 out. I can’t even deal.

Holy moly. Talk about Arctic tundra.

Holy moly. Talk about Arctic tundra.

However, unlike the blissful high school days (as Adam Sandler would say.. STAAAY AS LONG AS YOU CAAAAN) the majority of us still have to get up and come to work today, no matter how cold it is. Just because it’s cold out doesn’t mean we can bundle up in our casual layers. We still have to dress up. So how do we do it and still remain frugally chic?

I’m a huge fan of vests, and love belting one with a pencil skirt for a chic yet warm look:

So how do you do it? I looked to one of my favorite blogs, Capitol Hill Style for some inspiration:

Mixing textures is the way to go with this look. My Express sweater is grey, white and black, with a red quilted vest and a leopard belt. I originally paired this look with pumps but then thought, ‘Self, its 0 degrees out and there is snow on the ground – go with booties.’

Frugal Fashionista: Off the rack in CRW

The last couple of weeks I’ve been browsing the racks of stores here in Charleston, and have found some seriously GREAT fall/winter finds, with budget-babe friendly prices.

I stopped by Khol’s a couple weeks ago after seeing these loafers on another blogger’s page. They’re perfect for a casual work day or holiday party this winter:

Love this Simply Vera by Vera Wang bow loafers at Khol’s!

Also loving these embellished loafers.

I also found a few great items at the Charleston Marshall’s:

These Betsy Johnson pumps (for just $50) look just like the Steve Madden ones I've been drooling over, but are sold out everywhere!

I also found this super cute Jessica Simpson babydoll dress at Marshall’s recently:

I’m clearly turning into my mother, because I’m ALL ABOUT statement jackets lately. I found this one on sale at Gap for just $15!! Marked down from $80:

Gap's in-store sales are generally WAY better than online.

Frugal Fashionista: Real Girl Real Style

This week’s addition of Real Girl Real Style focuses some of my favorite fall looks; the army trend, booties, camel colored everything and winter white.

Sometimes, the simplest outfits are the chicest and are the best – like this simple Gap sweater with a scarf and booties. Definitely a go-to for me this fall and winter:

I found these booties for just $12.99 at Gabes in PA near my boyfriends house. Talk about a steal.

I love the next two looks for a slightly dressier day OR night look. These are perfect for a slightly dressier day at work for me (I work in a moderately casual office) or for a holiday get-together (Yes, I know it’s only October – planning ahead people!).

I recently did a guest blog post for the WV Style team (check it out here!), in which I detailed how to transition your summer clothes into the fall/winter. White jeans were a part of that post, so here’s how I wore my winter whites:

My inspiration look is from a newly discovered blog, Penny Pincher Fashion. It’s quickly become one of my all time favorite blogs to visit because it genuinely lives up to its name – there are legitimate frugal finds on her blog:

{a very late} Weekend in photos

I know, I know..it’s Thursday. I’ve been moving slowly this week – for some reason I have been absolutely exhausted all week and have let this blog get away from me.

Anyway, last weekend, my “in-laws” came to stay at my parents house and we had a GREAT time. They’re from Ohio, and we took them on a mini-‘tour’ of West Virginia on a very rainy Saturday.

I’ve had a bucket list of things I want to do in West Virginia for years, and now that I’m finally living in the state full-time, I can finally begin to check things off. I was so excited to do three of them in one day: Hawk’s Nest State Park, The Mystery Hole and the New River Gorge Bridge:

Our first stop was the infamous "Mystery Hole" near Hawk's Nest State Park.

We survived the mystery hole! I definitely recommend you go if you're in the area. It's ONLY $6!

It’s easy for us West Virginians to take advantage of the beautiful assets our state has to offer, so I’m glad we were able to share some of our state’s most beautiful with our out-of-town guests.

Next we stopped at the overlook at Hawk's nest!

We had an AMAZING dinner at Smokey's on the Gorge. I definitely suggest you eat there if you're in the area.
