What to Wear on Thanksgiving

Can I first start by saying, how did we get here!? Seriously, how is Thanksgiving just one week away? It feels like it was just our anniversary (Oct. 3) and now here we are on the precipice of the holiday season.

So what does one wear to Thanksgiving!? At my house, we are very casual when celebrating the holiday (my mom cooks at my parents house) so we don’t actually go anywhere. When it comes to the bird day, I like to keep it casual, but chic.

dress: Marshall’s (old, super similar here, under $30 and comes in 3 colors!) // scarf: Zara (similar here) // boots:  JustFab (similar here)

I think I love this look so much because not only is it comfy (which allows you to each as much turkey as your little heart desires) but it’s also made up of fall classics; OTK boots, a swing dress and a blanket scarf. You actually cannot go wrong with this combo.

What are your Thanksgiving plans? I’d love to hear + what you plan to wear!

Oxblood off-shoulder

I came across this pretty off-shoulder top while visiting the new Gabes in Florence and despite the sheer sleeves, I knew the bordeaux color of the top would make it totally acceptable for fall.. right? Either way, I’m going for it.

Fall Florals

I can’t believe I can post an outfit with a peep toe and a floral dress in November, but I can. This fall has been insanely mild, and I also didn’t want the weather to turn full-on cold (it’s imminent – please don’t make me layer-up JUST yet) without sharing this pretty floral dress.

Recipe of the Week: Skillet Chicken Sausage & Veggies

Do you ever open your fridge and just stare thinking, ‘What the hell am I going to make for dinner?’ It happens to me a lot. Last weekend at the store I impulse purchased whole grain penne pasta (I usually only keep spaghetti and linguine at the house – we don’t eat a lot of pasta on a regular basis).

SO what to make with some pasta? Naturally, I put it in Pinterest so see what I could come up with and found this recipe. I substituted the peppers for zucchini and squash and found some Trader Joe’s chicken sausage in the freezer. I also used lite Prego so it’d be a bit healthier.

Sorry for the crappy, iPhone pic, but I highly recommend this recipe. It was delish and I’ll definitely be making it again soon!

Happy eating,

Little Blue Jacket

There’s been a LOT going on in the biker jacket game this season. From suede, to fur lined, to a multitude of colors – you can pretty much find anything out there right now.

I, of course, have to take part in the trend, too. While I haven’t found a suede moto jacket I love yet in the budg, I’ve had this pretty blue one for awhile and I continue to find myself reaching for it.

This is one of my BEST purchases from Gabes, ever. The fit is perfection, and I love the color – it goes with a TON (way more than you’d think!) I love it for date night or really any occasion.

Run, don’t walk! Sephora sale!

It’s that time of year, ya’ll. The Sephora sale AKA early Christmas. 20% off EVERYTHING on the site is no joke.

The sale is currently open to all VIB Rouge members through today (use code 20ROUGE) until 11/7 and open to all other VIB members from 11/11-11/14 (code 20VIB).

In light of the sale AND a conversation I had with my awesome brow magician (Hi, Wendy! – seriously, ya’ll she works wonders, go see her at Sia Spa) I wanted to share some of my tried and true beauty products from Sephora (in no particular order).

  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector – I have this powder highlighter in two colors (Champagne Pop and Opal) and I use one EVERY day. Not only do they give an immediate glow, but it really lasts. I also have this liquid highlighter that I use a lot as well.
  • Laura Mercier Radiance Primer – I’ve blogged about this before, but I use this under my foundation (or mixed with my foundation) whenever I want my skin to really glow.
  • Sephora Collection Luxe False Lashes – I first purchased these lashes for my wedding (thanks, Shivalicious!) and I immediately became a believer. They price tag can be a little scary BUT they’re so worth it – I wore the same pair for almost a YEAR. They just recently wore out and I’m going to purchase my second pair.
  • IT Cosmetisc Superhero Mascara & Benefit Roller Lift Mascara– I use these two mascaras in combination (I apply IT Cosmetics first and then Benefit to lift) and I love what they do for my not-so-naturally lengthly lashes.

  • Urban Decay Vice Lipstick – I have UD’s lipsticks in a ton of colors, especially the mattes. They’re not dry, which is great for me because I seem to have perpetually dry lips.
  • UD 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil – I use this pencil to tight line my eyes every. single. day. and I cannot recommend it enough. They truly do glide on SO smoothly. It’s unlike any pencil liner I’ve ever used.
  • Sephora Collection Ink Gel – This cheek tint came in one of my Play! boxes and I haven’t looked back. I absolutely love it – I use it for everyday AND on days when I just throw it on over a BB cream.
  • Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick – Probably my favorite lippie to wear. Perfectly matte, not over-drying at all. The colors are SO vivid. My personal favorite is ‘Armageddon’ which will make even the palest person (me) look bronze (ie here)
  • NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil – Like the Kat Von D, I have this in quite a few colors and I love them. I especially love Cruella, Rikuguen and Never Say Never).

Happy shopping!

Lace-Up Back Sweater

It’s no secret that lace-up everything is trending this year. While most trends tend to be in the front, I was so excited to find a sweater that laces up in the back, too.

I love an oversized, super cozy sweater I can wear with my favorite faux leather leggings and boots. The best part about this one? It’s SUPER affordable. That means you need it in your closet.

Over the weekend, I was invited to Gorman Heritage Farm for a special event with Goose Island. Attendees were invited to move our way through various stations that included outdoor beer lounges and a mystery beer bar tucked away inside a yurt (yes… a yurt.)

While I love my wine (hence the last name…) I’m also a huge craft beer lover, so this was right up my alley.

We tasted our way throughout the farm with various food pairings, live music from CAAMP, and s’mores by the fire. We also got the opportunity to drink a few not-publicly-available beers with Rhinegeist as well – talk about an experience. It was seriously cool.

Excuse me while I go out and buy Kroger out of Goose Island’s Sophie – a limited release saison that I seriously think is my new favorite beer.
